Bananaquit


Scientific Name: Coereba flaveola

Population Estimate: 5 - 50M

Range / Habitat: Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, extending up to middle elevations at places, throughout southern Mexico, Central America, most of South America, and many Caribbean islands.

Field Notes: Small passerine with short tail and decurved bill. Striking head pattern with black crown, white brow, black eye stripe, white neck. Chest and belly are bright yellow. Coloration overall duller in juveniles. Nectar feeder.

Personal Notes: Seen at Arenal Nayara Hotel and Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
