White-winged Dove


Scientific Name: Zenaida asiatica

Population Estimate: 19M, Least Concern status

Range / Habitat: Originally a bird of desert thickets, now found in urban areas as well in the southern US, Mexico and Central America.

Field Notes: Large dove, grey-brown overall, with a dark line on the cheek. Prominent white stripe at the edge of the folded wing, becoming a white flash in flight.

Personal Notes: "Just like the white-winged dove...sings the song sounds like she's singing...."
