Chiloe Wigeon


Scientific Name: Anas Sibilatrix

Population Estimate: 100K - 1M

Range / Habitat: Found in inland wetlands throughout Brazil and southern South America. 

Field Notes: Dabbling duck. Classic wigeon "smudge" to the eye and light bill with dark tip. Breeding males with iridescent blue swath over the eye. Tail feathers black with white border. It does not overlap in range with the other two wigeon species.

Personal Notes: Seen at the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City, Utah.
