Range / Habitat: Freshwater and mangrove habitats from both slopes of Mexico down through Central America.
Field Notes: Large, stocky, solitary heron with grey face, black cap, yellow throat, and intricately patterned neck and back. Juveniles have bolder pattern, more cinnamon coloring. Males have a booming roar.
