Notes: Medium-sized woodpecker endemic to Western Mexico. Like many other woodpecker species, the male has a red tuft on his head (top photo) whereas the female does not (bottom photo). You can see the golden cheek in the female as well.

ReplyDeleteI love woodpeckers! These guys are so comical looking. Richard saw a huge pale-billed woodpecker, too, but we didn't get a photo.
